HeatShield® Cerfractory Chimney Relining in Maryland
HeatShield® cerfractory flue sealant — a code-listed alternative to stainless relining that restores cracked clay tile liners from inside the existing flue. Call (855) 424-6217 for a Maryland HeatShield assessment.

About Our HeatShield Reline Service
HeatShield® is the most significant chimney restoration innovation of the last twenty years, and for many Maryland homeowners with cracked clay tile liners it is the right answer instead of full stainless relining. The system uses a ceramic-based cerfractory sealant — engineered specifically for the temperatures and corrosive byproducts of wood, gas, and oil combustion — that is applied to the inside of an existing clay tile flue using specialized application bells, foam plugs, and pneumatic delivery. The result is a smooth, gas-tight, UL 1777 listed flue liner that meets NFPA 211 without removing a single brick from your chimney.
Most Maryland chimneys built between 1950 and 1995 were lined with stacked clay tile sections set in thin mortar joints. After three to six decades of freeze-thaw, thermal cycling, and the occasional minor chimney fire, those mortar joints wash out, tile faces spall, and small cracks open between courses. Video flue scans on annual NFPA 211 inspections catch these defects on a remarkable percentage of homes from Beltsville to Bethesda to Frederick. Once the liner is compromised, you have three options: do nothing and let combustion gases reach the surrounding masonry (a code violation and a serious safety hazard), reline with stainless steel (the standard solution, excellent but more expensive and irreversible), or restore with HeatShield. For many chimneys, HeatShield is the better fit.
There are three application levels matched to the condition found on inspection. Joint Repair fills washed-out mortar joints between sound tiles using a HeatShield application bell that is pulled up the flue, depositing sealant precisely at each joint. CeCure Sleeve is used when cracks, gaps, or missing tile sections require a continuous reinforcing membrane bonded to the existing flue with HeatShield sealant. Full Resurfacing applies a continuous coating to the entire flue interior, restoring a smooth, code-compliant surface inside a deteriorated but still structurally sound chimney. We perform a pre-application video scan to document existing condition, complete the appropriate HeatShield application, and re-scan after cure to verify the restoration. The final video, application records, and 20-year warranty registration are delivered to you in writing.
For Maryland historic homes — pre-1950 brick and stone chimneys in Old Bowie, Ellicott City, Frederick, Annapolis, and the Baltimore rowhouse districts — HeatShield often wins on more than price. Stainless relining requires a top-down liner insertion that can require removal of the existing crown and chimney cap, and the resulting metal flue inside the masonry can change draft characteristics. HeatShield restores the chimney to like-new condition while preserving every original brick, every original tile, and the architectural character of the home. Our HeatShield Certified Installers complete the assessment, application, and warranty registration on every job. Serving residential and commercial properties across Maryland and DC.

What to Expect
Our straightforward process from first call to job completion.
Level 2 Video Inspection
We perform a full-length video scan of the existing flue, documenting every crack, joint failure, and dimensional issue with timestamped photos. The scan determines whether HeatShield is the appropriate restoration.
HeatShield Application Level Selection
Based on documented conditions, we recommend Joint Repair, CeCure Sleeve, or Full Resurfacing — with written explanation of why this level matches the damage observed.
Pre-Application Prep & Sweep
Flue is swept clean, smoke chamber cleared, and the chimney is protected with drop cloths. HeatShield application bells and foam plugs are sized to the exact flue dimensions.
Cerfractory Application
HeatShield Certified Installer applies the cerfractory sealant using HeatShield-engineered equipment, depositing material precisely where the damage exists. Application time varies from 4-10 hours depending on level and flue height.
Cure, Verification & Warranty
Sealant cures fully before any appliance use. A post-application video scan verifies the restoration. The 20-year HeatShield warranty is registered in your name and delivered along with application records and verification video.
