Chimney Relining (Stainless Steel & Cast-in-Place) in Maryland

A chimney liner is the inner pipe that carries combustion gases from the appliance to the outside. When it fails, hot gases, sparks, and creosote can reach the surrounding masonry and combustibles, and carbon monoxide can leak into the house. NFPA 211 and the International Residential Code require a code-compliant liner for every active chimney. Eagle Chimney Service installs the three major categories of liner systems used in Maryland and DC homes — stainless steel, HeatShield ceramic, and Supaflu cast-in-place — and sizes each one to match the appliance, the fuel, and the chimney geometry.

Stainless steel liners are the most common relining solution for wood, gas, and oil. We install UL-1777-listed 316Ti stainless flexible and rigid systems for solid-fuel and oil applications, and UL-1777-listed 304 stainless for gas-only applications. For wood and oil, we wrap the liner with high-temperature insulation to meet zero-clearance listings, retain heat for better draft, and protect the surrounding masonry. Stainless liner systems carry manufacturer warranties, and they remain the recommended solution when a chimney's existing clay tile liner has cracked, gapped, separated, or is missing entirely. For gas conversions where the original wood chimney is oversized for a new gas appliance, a properly sized stainless liner is the only code-compliant way to make the conversion work.

HeatShield is a ceramic cerfractory material that bonds to existing clay tile liners and rebuilds damaged sections from inside the chimney. We use two HeatShield systems: the Joint Repair System fills gapped mortar joints between tiles using a foam applicator pulled up through the flue, and the Resurfacing System trowels a continuous ceramic surface across damaged tiles for a complete interior restoration. HeatShield carries UL listings for solid-fuel and gas appliances and is the right choice when the existing clay tile liner is structurally sound but has localized damage, or when stainless steel would not fit geometry-wise.

Supaflu is a cast-in-place liner system used when a chimney has unusual geometry — multiple offsets, oversized dimensions, or odd shapes — that neither stainless nor HeatShield can address. A bladder is lowered into the existing flue and inflated, and a special cementitious lining material is pumped around the bladder, curing into a smooth, code-compliant flue surface. Supaflu installations also structurally reinforce the chimney and are particularly useful in historic chimneys where preserving the exterior is required. Every relining job we do starts with an NFPA 211 Level 2 inspection and ends with code-compliant terminations, complete documentation, and the manufacturer's warranty registered in your name.
